Raby Castle, an historic estate nestled in the heart of County Durham, England, embarked on a significant development project to enhance the visitor experience through a series of carefully designed new facilities while honouring the castle’s rich history.

The project, known as ‘The Rising’ is a transformative development, located within the historic Walled Gardens and parkland, The Rising includes a new visitor centre, café, retail spaces, and exhibition areas, all crafted to celebrate Raby Castle's medieval roots and its connection to the surrounding landscape. 

Catering Projects took pride in playing a significant role in the development, being entrusted with the design and installation of the kitchen and servery. 

We were also tasked with designing the interiors for the restaurant, guest WC’s, and Retail Space. Utilising our 3D visualisation capabilities, we collaborated closely with our clients to design every element of these spaces, enabling them to make informed design choices well before the project commenced. 

Since its opening in Summer 2024, The Rising has attracted an influx of new and repeat visitors.  This project serves as a model for other heritage sites seeking to innovate while respecting and celebrating their history.
